Bags by Bird Frame Bag Review: Everyday & Bikepacking Storage Gamechanger

When I started building out my State Bicycle Co. All Road for more adventures, the first real piece of storage gear I added was the Bags by Bird frame bag. Aside from a small emergency saddle pouch I already had, this was my first step into everyday bike storage — and it immediately changed the game.

Why I Chose Bags by Bird

I had come across some old photos of my State bike set up with a frame bag, and I just loved how it looked. Something about it felt so clean and dialed. That was enough to convince me to finally pull the trigger and place a custom order with Bags by Bird.

I went with a Better Half - Large Long (for L-XL frames) in Black X-Pac fabric. Simple. Timeless. I also requested the metal hook buckle and added the stretch cord thread for mounting. That was it. A clean setup that felt premium before I even installed it.

First Impressions & Everyday Carry

Right away, the bag became a staple. The first thing I carried was a foldable backpack and my bike lock — and just having that space to throw things in felt like such a luxury. Then it became part of my daily ride setup:

  • Sunglasses

  • AirPods

  • Wallet

  • Backup battery

  • Snacks

  • A Spindrift in a Yeti can insulator

  • Sometimes even my camera

It’s incredible how much it can hold without ever feeling bulky or awkward. The internal structure is clever too—one side of the bag is slightly deeper, which helps with organizing gear. I can’t stress enough how useful that’s been, especially for longer rides or spontaneous errands.

Quality, Fit & Design

Everything about this bag screams high quality. The stitching, the materials, the thoughtful design—it’s all top-tier. The stretchy cord tie-down system did take me a minute to get just right, but once I dialed it in, it not only held strong but looked awesome too. There's something satisfying about the way it hugs the bike frame—functional and stylish all at once.

Whether I'm commuting, running errands, or heading out on a bikepacking trip, this bag has become a must-have. It’s no exaggeration to say it changed how I use my bike.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a frame bag that balances everyday function with serious adventure readiness, I can't recommend the Bags by Bird Better Half enough. It’s rugged, it’s beautiful, and it’s built to last.

It’s rare to find gear that looks this good and performs even better—but this one does both.
